FLORAL ARRANGEMENTS

  • A cup and £10 will be awarded for the highest number of points in classes 25 - 31 inc
  • £5 will be awarded for the best Floral Exhibit
  • All other classes, 1st £5, 2nd £3, 3rd £2
  • Arrangements in classes 25 - 27 inc are to be staged in an alcove 2ft x 2ft x 30in (60 x 60 x 76cm) high
  • Classes 28 - 32 inc to be displayed on show bench as indicated. Entries can be staged after 5pm on Friday evening at the exhibitor’s risk

Garden News Top Tray Class sponsored by D.T. Brown. Full regulations may be obtained from Show Secretary.

Three types of vegetables chosen from the following:

Potatoes (3) Tomatoes (6) Pods of Peas (6) Runner Beans (6 pods)
Onions (3) Cauliflowers (2) Parsnips (3) Carrots (3)

Carrots and parsnips must have foliage trimmed back to 7.5cms. Peas and beans must be displayed with some stalk attached.  Tomatoes must be displayed with calyces.  The vegetables should be displayed within an area of 18 x 24 in (45 x 60cm) without bending any part of them. The tray, board or staging must not be cut or mutilated in any way at all.  No part of an exhibit should exceed the size of the tray. Parsley garnish and a black base cloth are allowed but no other foliage or accessories. Onion tops may be tied or whipped using raffia or string. Each type of vegetable carries a maximum of 20 points.

1st prize - £10 D.T. Brown voucher and special certificate, 2nd prize - £5 D.T. Brown voucher, 3rd prize - £3 D.T. Brown voucher.  Garden News will be notified of the prize winners and they will be entered into a draw which will take place in November 2009.

HONEY

  • BBKA Show Rules (1994) apply
  • Jars to be BS standard 454gms pattern with gold lacquered lids. 
  • Show labels (supplied on day) affixed 2cms from base.
  • Honey and wax must be from exhibitor’s apiary except for class 110
106 Two 454g jars Liquid Honey (Light, Medium or Dark)
107 Two 454g jars Set Honey (Granulated or Soft Set)
108 One shallow Comb of Honey suitable for extracting
109 Six 28g (approx. 1oz) Beeswax Blocks, all uniform shape
110 A Honey Cake (225g (8ozs) SR flour, (175g) 6ozs honey, 115g (4ozs) butter or marg, 175g (6ozs) sultanas, 2 med eggs, pinch of salt, a little milk.) Toss sultanas in a little of the flour, cream fat with honey, beat eggs and add alternately with sifted flour and salt, mix well, adding a little milk if necessary, fold in sultanas. Bake at 180ºC/350ºF/Gas4 in 7ins round tin for approx. 1¼ hours.  Display on plain white paper plate with doily in clear polythene bag.  
111 Three jars liquid or set honey, but all the same type, labelled as offered for sale. Besides the quality of the honey, the attractiveness of the labels will be taken into account.

 

WINE AND BEER MAKING

  • The Arney Tankard and £5 will be awarded to the exhibitor with the highest number of points in Classes 112 - 120 inc  A prize of £5 will be awarded for the best exhibit
  • Bottles in all classes to be labelled with class and exhibitor numbers (labels supplied on day of show). No other labels permitted
  • All wines to be exhibited in clear 26oz (750ml) bottles, flanged cork stoppers to be used, bottles to be filled to within a half inch of the cork
  • All beer and cider must be in traditional bottles with crown cork or screw stopper, to be filled to within a half inch of the cork or stopper; cider to be in clear bottle
  • Classes 118 - 120 inc to be exhibited in clear bottles with flanged cork stoppers, minimum volume 350ml
